One of the great things that the Internet has brought us is the ability to connect with people we never would have met otherwise. No matter where your interests lie, there's bound to be others out there with similar interests. There are meetup groups in nearly every city in the world. And if you can't find a meetup that suits you, you shouldn’t be afraid to jump in and start your own.
